PRESS RELEASE - Tuesday 29th July, 2008

FAIR has Serious Reservations Concerning ‘Islam on Campus’ Report by the Centre for Social Cohesion’.

We regard the Report's methodology as highly questionable and its findings unrepresentative of the majority of British Muslim's views.

Undermining and jeopardising the efforts of all those working to promote social cohesion and tackling violent extremism, the Report leaves British Muslims more threatened than ever, vulnerable to the very worrying danger of reactionary hate crimes and increase in hostility.

Fuelled by the publication of such inflammatory material there is little doubt that the report will add to the increasingly negative stereotyping of British Muslims and increase hostility and racism towards minority communities, benefiting no-one in the process other than the extreme Far Right.

PRESS RELEASE - Tuesday 22nd July, 2008

FAIR WELCOMES ARREST OF WARTIME SERBIAN LEADER RADOVAN KARADZIC AFTER 12 YEARS ON THE RUN.

FAIR welcomes the arrest of wartime Serbian leader Radovan Karadzic after 12 years on the run.

Although it has taken many years to capture him, nevertheless, justice will now be served on the orchestrator of a genocide which saw the ethnic cleansing of almost 8000 men, women, and children in Srebrenica July 1995.

FAIR hopes that one chapter can now be closed on a bloody and tragic war which shocked the world, and that the lesson is learnt, once again, that violence, hatred, racism and ethnic cleansing achieve nothing but decimated societies and lost lives.

PRESS RELEASE - Monday 31st March, 2008

FAIR STRONGLY CONDEMNS GEERT WILDER’S FILM “FITNA”.

The moral simplicity and pure self-publicising opportunism of Geert Wilder's film is outrageous, and the mental gutter into which he has dragged intellectual discourse a sad reflection of the state into which Islamophobes have sunk.

Projecting himself the upright, respectable citizen, Wilder sees his crusade as a noble cause, an important exposition of some high-minded “truths” regarding Islam, the Qur’an, and Muslims. In reality there is no shortage of fallacious comment, faulty logic, outright lies, and exaggerated distortion.

Wilder’s film is little more than an attempt to divide communities through heavily playing on people’s deepest fears and emotions, generating anger, and inciting hatred. Like all racists and extremists, he seems oblivious to the fact that his film is also threatening the safety and security of vulnerable groups, damaging community cohesion and threatening national interests.

FAIR is delighted that Muslims have upheld the true message and ethics of Islam by responding peacefully and with measured thought to the film. We strongly urge all right-minded and just people to do the same.

FAIR also thanks all those people in the Netherlands and elsewhere who have rightly condemned the film, including those in the media who have refused to either air it or post it on websites.
